ABOUT AIRPORT SHUTTLE
Cache Valley Limo’s Airport Shuttle was originally the idea of a
group of students attending Utah State University. Gavin Washburn,
a USU business intern working for Centennial Air, a small commuter
airline at the Logan Cache Airport, recognized the need for a good
ground transportation service in Cache Valley.
Centennial was making 5 trips daily, the fare was expensive, and the
flight was often rough due to the geographical features of the area.
Flights were often cancelled due to weather or
conditions of low
visibility. Before the end of that year, Centennial Air discontinued
service. They were the last commuter airline to serve as a shuttle air
service to and from the Salt Lake City Airport.
At that time, only one ground transportation
company offered service in the valley,
an Ogden based shuttle company. They
operated on a very restricted schedule
and would not make a trip to Cache Valley without prior reservations.
The need for a local, dependable, and flexible ground transportation
service was indisputable. In 1986, the group of students wrote a
business plan and entered it in a contest sponsored by USU’s
College of Business. The plan won, and with the $5,000.00 award the
first van was purchased.
The business started operation with one Mitsubishi van in February
of 1987. Instead of a pre-set schedule, a reservation system with
doorstep to curbside direct service to the Salt Lake City airport was
used - allowing for more flexibility and convenience.

By the summer of 1987, most of the original
group of students had graduated.
Mr. John C. Taylor assumed ownership and management
of the company in 1992.
Currently, Cache Valley Limousine schedules as many as 25 or as few as
6 trips a day, the average is 14. They operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. Their office hours are 8:00am to 9:00pm Monday
through Friday and 8:00am to 5:00pm on Saturdays. They have an
on-call representative answering the phones all other hours.
They operate on a reservation system that
allows their schedule, which is different
from day to day, to meet the needs of their passengers.
The company utilizes nine vehicles:
six 5-passenger vans, one wheelchair
accessible van and two 15-passenger
vans converted to seat 8 passengers
comfortably.
There are currently over 30 employees,
4 full time drivers, 2 full time office
managers, over 15 part time drivers,
4 part time office/shop personnel, and
1 part time mechanic.
In 1997 the company purchased a facility
where it houses the vans, an office,
a cleaning area and repair shop in Hyde
Park. |
